YOYOGI PARK, Tokyo

Previously an army parade ground, central Tokyo’s grand open space was used as the Athletes’ Village for the 1964 Olympics and was then converted into the 54 ha. recreation park of today. In 1990 TLA redesigned the central area of the park, adding a scenic pond and linear pool with three fountains of up to 30 meter spray height. The water features are surrounded by plazas, footpaths, and gardens creating a strongly identifiable landmark as well as a cooling and audible space at a scale on par of that of the park itself and which accommodates a great number of weekend visitors.
