JAPANESE GARDEN, 2016 TANGSHAN INTERNATIONAL HORTICULTURAL EXPOSITION, Tangshan, China

With the holding of Tangshan International Horticultural Exposition of 2016, several international landscape architects, including Haruto Kobayashi of TLA, were selected to design thematic regional gardens.

The plan created by Mr. Kobayashi and TLA was structured according to two main zones–one is a serene space with the elements of a Japanese garden to recall "the requiem and the memory" of the 1976 Tangshan Earthquake that devastated the city and to the victims of the disaster. The other zone is a new bright space symbolizing "the paradise newly born" by juxtaposing the elements of the rock garden with flowering plants and trees.
