Otomeyama Park Expansion, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo

This project was carried out from concept and detailed design to implementation for an extension of approximately 1.5 ha. of the park to a total of 2.7 ha. In creating the basic plan, the primary aim was to preserve the valuable natural resources in the park, including its rich woods and natural spring water, as a location for residents of highly urbanized Shinjuku to have an opportunity to be in contact with nature.

The park extension, which also serves as a disaster evacuation area, integrates seamlessly into the overall park structure and character. The park expansion received an award from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in 2015.
