AOBAYAMA PARK, Sendai, Japan

Aobayama Park surrounds the site of the ruins of Sendai Castle and also contains the Gokoku Shrine. Located on the plateau and slopes of Aoba hill the park provides dramatic views overlooking the city and is a popular destination for strolling and other passive recreation within a natural environment with an historic context. The park’s planning focused on the preservation of historical and natural resources as well as optimizing the visitor experience for the various types of park users.
